About the foundation

Our story

Saumitra Foundation is a public charitable trust established on 9 May 2025. It works towards learning, leadership and skill-development opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, alongside wider support for communities in need.

Education, sports and culture are central to this purpose. Based in New Delhi, the foundation’s mission extends across India.

Remembering Yogi Babu

The Yogi Babu Memorial Scholarship honours the memory of late Shri Yogendra Prasad Gupta, affectionately known as Yogi Babu. It recognises academic merit and supports students from socially and financially disadvantaged backgrounds.

Our areas of work

Our mission encompasses the following areas. We aim to develop initiatives that respond to the needs of students and communities.

Education

Scholarships, school kits, remedial learning, career guidance and mentoring.

Livelihoods & poverty alleviation

Vocational training, self-help group support, health and hygiene awareness, and rural development.

Sports

Local tournaments, coaching, training support and access to sports equipment and facilities.

Culture

Folk art, music and dance, preservation of local crafts, cultural programmes and support for young artists.

Community development

Sanitation, environmental awareness, tree planting, health camps, community infrastructure and emergency relief.

How we work

The scholarship framework combines academic merit with financial need, involves the school administration and Trust in selection, and provides for annual review and school feedback.
